Prof. Samuel Ifeanyi Mmoneke

Prof. Samuel Ifeanyi Mmoneke is the current Head of the Department of Philosophy at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University. An erudite scholar and seasoned academic, Prof. Mmoneke specializes in metaphysics, epistemology, and African philosophy.

With a deep commitment to critical thinking and ethical inquiry, he leads the department in cultivating intellectual discipline and philosophical rigor among students. His tenure is marked by academic excellence, mentorship, and the advancement of philosophical discourse that addresses contemporary societal issues.

Department of Philosophy

Established in the 2011/2012 Academic Session, our department emerged as one of four pioneering departments under the newly separated Faculty of Arts at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University.

From humble beginnings with three academic staff, we've grown into one of the most prestigious departments in the Faculty, known for intellectual excellence and transformative education.

Admission Requirements

Undergraduate
  • Five credits including English (pass in Mathematics) in SSCE/WASSCE/NECO
  • Must meet departmental UTME cut-off
Direct Entry
  • A' Level, ND, HND or equivalent qualifications
Postgraduate (M.A.)
  • Second Class Lower (2:2) in Philosophy or related field
Postgraduate (PhD)
  • M.A or relevant PGD with minimum CGPA of 3.0 (5-point scale)
